Measuring Guide
How to measure accurately with easy steps
What you will need
-
Tape Measure
You will need a tape measure to measure the size of the windowsill so that you can accurately tell us the size of the blinds you need.
-
Pen and Paper
You will need a pen and a notebook to record your measurements.
-
Two People
In order to ensure the accuracy of the measurement, it is best to have a friend to help you measure together

Step 1 : Check the window recess depth
- Ensure there is at least 1.5 inches of free recess depth for the blinds to fit securely.
- Measure the shallowest point of the recess:
- Measure from the shallowest point to the front edge of the recess.
- If recess depth is less than 1.5 inches, switch to an outside mount.

Step 2: Check for obstructions
1. Identify anything protruding inside the window recess, such as:
- Winders
- Locks
- Handles
- Latches
2. Measuring Free Recess Depth:
Measure from the front of the obstruction to the front edge of the recess.
- Subtract the obstruction depth from the total recess depth to calculate free depth.
- If free depth is insufficient (<1.5 inches), consider an outside mount.

Step 3: Measuring the Width
1. Measure the width of the window recess in three places:
- Top
- Middle
- Bottom
2. Use the narrowest measurement to ensure proper fit.
3. Keep your tape measure straight and avoid diagonal measurements.
4. Use a credit card and clip for better alignment:
- Attach the card to the tape measure.
- Slide the card along the tape to the surface.
5. Round down to the nearest 1/16 inch for accuracy.

Step 4: Measuring the Height
1. Measure the height of the window recess in three places:
- Left
- Center
- Right
2. Use the longest measurement to ensure full coverage.
3. Keep the tape straight and aligned with the recess.
4. Avoid bending or dropping the tape measure.
5. Round down to the nearest 1/16 inch.
